About Mud Sweat and Tears
My name is Pete Wingard and I am Mud Sweat and Tears. Mud Sweat and Tears has been in business for over ten years here in Atlanta Georgia.
Mud Sweat and Tears specializes in Southern antique and folk pottery; specifically from North and South Carolina, Georgia and Alabama. This type of pottery or stoneware is distinct from the rest of the world and is highly collectable. Abner Landrum in the early 1800s read about and copied the alkaline glazing done by the Chinese hundreds of years earlier. On his plantation in South Carolina he started the first pottery manufactory of the South. Because he had and used slaves, African-Americans also distinctly influenced the local, Southern tradition of pottery making; most notably face jugs. As the frontier opened up the tradition spread throughout the South and as far west as Texas.
Mud Sweat and Tears buys, sells, and trades in this distinct and highly collectable Southern pottery. We have had hundreds of clients over all four states and as far north as New York and as far west as California. Mud Sweat and Tears has handled many pieces worth tens-of-thousands of dollars and is considered by many an expert on the subject.
You may look but you will not find a store called Mud Sweat and Tears. I do a few antique shows but mainly deal directly with knowledgeable collectors.
